CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 for VW Caddy MK4
The vehicle-specific MFD28 Gen2 replaces an air vent with a fully integrated data display while still allowing airflow past the screen. Installation is designed to be doable without a workshop; illustrated instructions are available for most displays.
Key features
- OEM-style fitment: Vehicle-specific bezel with retained vent airflow
- CAN bus data: In-depth vehicle readouts comparable to manufacturer diagnostic tools
- Gear display: Via CAN bus or calculated from speed and RPM
- Touchscreen operation: Page navigation with swipe gestures
- Custom pages: Build your own layouts, add images, and set a start animation
- Additional inputs: Up to 4 analog inputs plus a direct ethanol sensor input
- CAN switching: Use the display as a keypad and send custom CAN messages
- Configurable alarms: User-defined warnings (e.g., exhaust gas temperature above 900°C)
- Logging: Save logs to the internal SD card for later analysis
- Performance meter: 0–100, 100–200, and 0–200 timing without extra hardware
- DTC*: Read and clear faults for engine ECU, transmission, ABS, and all-wheel drive
- Dimming*: Automatic dimming with the instrument lighting
Pages and display layouts
- Delivered with predefined sample pages
- Create your own pages (up to 10)
- 20 widget types (e.g., sensor value, analogue pointer, YT diagram, speed bar, round display, vertical/horizontal bar)
- Drag-and-drop positioning with scalable widget sizes
- Fully adjustable widget colours
- Up to 64 widgets per page
Display Setup Software (DSS)
DSS is used to customize the display, download and review log files, and access an integrated CAN logger. The built-in TRI Editor lets you configure sensors (CAN bus or internal), set min/max warning thresholds, and rename sensors.
Supported values
The display supports CAN bus data queries (UDS, TP2, and manufacturer-specific protocols) as well as K-Line (ISO 9141). It is supplied with predefined TRI/TRX files that define the sensors queried; available sensors vary by engine. Examples include:
Temperatures
- Exhaust temperature, coolant temperature, oil temperature, intake temperature, outside temperature, gasoline temperature, DSG temperature
Pressures
- Boost pressure, ambient pressure, fuel pressure (pre-feed pump), rail pressure (actual/target)
Lambda / mixture
- Lambda value, injection time, short-term lambda adjustment, long-term lambda adjustment
Other
- RPM, air mass, vehicle speed, throttle angle, total ignition angle, ignition angle retraction per cylinder, N75 timing (%), terminal 30 voltage, torque, gear, diesel-specific values
If values are missing, they can be added later.
Connections and expansion
Four analog inputs support linear 0–5V signals and NTC sensors. CANchecked sensors are stored in the TRI/TRX files by default and only need to be connected:
- AIN1: Temperature sensor (NTC01)
- AIN2: Type K exhaust gas temperature converter (TCC01)
- AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (FLP01)
- AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (BST01)
A pre-assembled AIN wiring harness can be used for connection.
An external shift light with eight LEDs can also be connected, with configurable colours and RPM limits on the display.
An ethanol sensor connects directly to the display; a 10K pull-up resistor is required between 5V and the signal. Ethanol content and temperature can then be displayed and logged.
Advanced functions
- Math-Channels: Calculate channels from other sensor values
- User-Table: Create additional sensors using 2D or 3D maps
