CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 Vent Display for BMW 3 Series E30

The MFD28 Gen2 replaces the air vent insert with an integrated data display designed specifically for the BMW E30. The vehicle-specific bezel retains airflow past the display, and installation is intended to be achievable without a workshop (illustrated instructions are available for most displays).

Display Setup Software (DSS)

DSS is used to customize pages and manage logs. It includes a log viewer and an integrated CAN logger. The integrated TRI Editor allows sensor configuration (CAN Bus or internal), including min/max warning thresholds and sensor naming.

Supported ECU values

The display supports CAN Bus data query (UDS, TP2, manufacturer-specific protocols) and K-Line (ISO 9141). It is delivered with predefined TRI/TRX files that define which sensors are queried (varies by engine). If values are missing, they can be added later.

Examples of supported channels include:

• Temperatures: Exhaust, coolant, oil, intake, outside, gasoline, DSG temperature.
• Pressures: Boost, ambient, fuel pressure pre-feed pump, rail pressure actual/target.
• Lambda/mixture: Lambda value, injection time, short-term lambda adjustment, long-term lambda adjustment.
• Other: RPM, air mass, vehicle speed, throttle angle, total ignition angle, ignition angle retraction per cylinder, N75 timing (%), terminal 30 voltage, torque, gear, diesel-specific values.

Connections and expansion

Four analog inputs support linear 0–5V and NTC sensors. CANchecked in-house sensors are stored in the TRI/TRX files by default and only need to be connected:

• AIN1: Temperature sensor (NTC01)
• AIN2: Type K EGT converter (TCC01)
• AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (FLP01)
• AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (BST01)

An external 8-LED shift light can be connected, with colors and RPM limits configurable on the display.

An ethanol sensor connects directly to the display. A 10K pull-up resistor between 5V and signal is required to view and log ethanol content and temperature.

Advanced functions

• Math Channels: Calculate channels from other sensors.
