CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 Vent Display for VW Golf MK6

The CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 replaces the air-vent insert with a neatly integrated data display while still allowing airflow. It’s designed for DIY installation, and illustrated instructions are available for most versions.

Display Setup Software (DSS)

CANchecked DSS is used to configure pages and display behavior. It includes a log viewer for downloading and reviewing log files and an integrated CAN logger. The built-in TRI Editor allows sensor adjustments for both CAN Bus and internal channels, including setting min/max warning thresholds and renaming sensors.

Supported ECU values

The display supports CAN Bus data queries via UDS, TP2, and manufacturer-specific protocols. It ships with predefined TRI/TRX files that define which sensors are queried (varies by engine). Examples include:

Temperatures

• Exhaust temperature, coolant temperature, oil temperature, intake temperature, outside temperature, gasoline temperature, DSG temperature

Pressures

• Boost pressure, ambient pressure, fuel pressure (pre-feed pump), rail pressure (actual/target)

Lambda / mixture

• Lambda value, injection time, short-term lambda adjustment, long-term lambda adjustment

Other

• RPM, air mass, vehicle speed, throttle angle, total ignition angle, ignition angle retraction per cylinder, N75 timing (%), terminal 30 voltage, torque, gear, diesel-specific values

If values are missing, they can be added later.

Connections and expansion

Four analog inputs support linear 0–5V and NTC sensors. CANchecked sensors are pre-defined in the TRI/TRX files and only need to be connected:

• AIN1: Temperature sensor (NTC01)
• AIN2: Type K EGT converter (TCC01)
• AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (FLP01)
• AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (BST10)

A pre-assembled AIN wiring harness can be used for connection.

An external 8-LED shift light can also be connected; flash colors, RPM limits, and behavior are configured directly on the display.

An ethanol sensor connects directly to the display. A 10k pull-up resistor between 5V and signal is required to view and log ethanol content and temperature.
