BMW E9x Display
The BMW E9x Display is an in-dash data display for BMW E9x vehicles, reading vehicle information directly via CAN-Bus and showing it on an MFD28 Gen2 display with a vehicle-specific bezel designed to match the factory cockpit. A dedicated CAN-Bus protocol is used for fast query speeds.
Key Highlights
- OEM-style cockpit integration for BMW E9x
- Supports up to 128 sensors
- 10 customizable display modes via DSS (Display Setup Software)
- Pre-installed display modes for quick setup
- Plug-and-play installation using the included vehicle-specific cable set
- Four additional analog inputs for external sensors (e.g., exhaust temperature, oil pressure)
- Ethanol sensor connection option
- Optional glare protection film for improved readability
- Diagnostic-friendly, eye-level sensor viewing
- Data logging to internal SD card (continuous or on-demand)
- Page switching via the factory cruise control switch
Functions
- Performance Meter: Acceleration timing for 0–100, 100–200, and 0–200.
- Data Logging: Log to the internal SD card; last trip data is saved.
- Customizable Alerts: Configure warnings such as exceeding 900° exhaust temperature.
- Error Reading/Clearing: Read and clear engine control unit fault messages.
- Personalization: Custom start screen and selectable widgets.
Vehicle Data (via CAN-Bus)
A pre-configured TRI file is provided, listing available queryable sensors. Depending on engine/vehicle equipment, values may include:
- Temperatures: Engine coolant, intake air, exhaust gas, transmission
- Pressures: Boost, ambient, oil
- Lambda/Fuel Mixture: Lambda target/actual, short- and long-term lambda adjustments, MAF, engine load, torque
- Driver Dynamics: Brake pressure, vehicle speed, throttle angle / accelerator pedal position
- Other: RPM, total ignition angle, gear, battery voltage, ignition angle correction per cylinder
Not every engine provides all listed values.
Analog Inputs & Expansion
Four analog inputs support linear 0–5V and NTC sensors. Additional sensors such as oil temperature, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and exhaust gas temperature can be added. An ethanol sensor can be connected for flex-fuel applications.
Supported CANchecked display sensors are integrated in the TRI/TRX files and can be connected as follows:
- AIN1: Temperature sensor
- AIN2: Type K exhaust gas temperature probe
- AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar
- AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute
An external 8-LED flash module can be connected and configured to indicate RPM limits using different colors.
Ethanol sensor connection requires a 10K pull-up resistor between 5V and signal; ethanol content and temperature can then be displayed and logged.
Advanced Configuration
Math channels allow combining sensor data. User tables enable additional sensor creation using 2D or 3D maps.
Compatibility
Fits BMW E9x models with a frame suitable for E90 including E91, E92, and E93. A right-hand drive (RHD) version is available.
