CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 for VW Golf MK3
The CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 replaces an air vent with a vehicle-specific display solution that remains neatly integrated while still allowing airflow past the bezel. It’s designed for straightforward installation, with illustrated instructions available for most versions, so it can typically be fitted without a workshop visit.

Display Setup Software (DSS)
CANchecked DSS is used to configure the display, manage layouts, and handle data analysis. It includes a log viewer for downloading and reviewing log files, an integrated CAN logger, and a TRI Editor to adjust sensor definitions (CAN bus or internal), rename sensors, and set min/max warning thresholds.
Supported CAN values (examples)
The MFD28 Gen2 supports CAN bus data queries using UDS, TP2, and manufacturer-specific protocols. It ships with predefined TRI/TRX files that define which sensors are queried (varies by engine). Missing values can be added later.
Temperatures
- Exhaust temperature, coolant temperature, oil temperature, intake temperature, outside temperature, gasoline temperature, DSG temperature
Pressures
- Boost pressure, ambient pressure, fuel pressure pre-feed pump, rail pressure actual/target
Lambda/mixture
- Lambda value, injection time, short-term lambda adjustment, long-term lambda adjustment

- RPM, air mass, vehicle speed, throttle angle, total ignition angle, ignition angle retraction per cylinder, N75 timing (%), terminal 30 voltage, torque, gear, diesel-specific values

Connections and expansion
Four analog inputs support linear 0–5V sensors and NTC sensors. CANchecked in-house sensors are already defined in the TRI/TRX files and only need to be connected:
- AIN1: Temperature sensor (NTC01)
- AIN2: Type K EGT converter/transducer (TCC01)
- AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (FLP01)
- AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (BST10)
An optional pre-assembled AIN wiring harness can be used for sensor connection. An external shift light with eight LEDs can also be connected, with colours and RPM limits configured directly on the display.
An ethanol sensor connects directly to the display and requires a 10K pull-up resistor between 5V and signal; ethanol content and temperature can then be displayed and logged.
