CANchecked MFD28 Gen2 Vent Display for VW Scirocco MK3 pre-FL
The MFD28 Gen2 replaces the air-vent insert with a vehicle-specific display solution that remains integrated into the dashboard while still allowing airflow past the bezel. It’s designed for straightforward installation and is typically supported by illustrated instructions.

Display Setup Software (DSS)
DSS allows full customization of pages and sensors, includes a log viewer for downloading and viewing log files, and integrates a CAN logger. The built-in TRI Editor lets you edit sensor configuration (CAN bus or internal), set min/max warning thresholds, and rename sensors.
Supported data and protocols
Data is read via CAN bus (UDS, TP2, manufacturer-specific protocols) and via K-Line (ISO 9141). The display is supplied with predefined TRI/TRX files that define which sensors are queried (varies by engine). Example values include:
Temperatures
- Exhaust gas temperature, coolant temperature, oil temperature, intake temperature, outside temperature, gasoline temperature, DSG temperature
Pressures
- Boost pressure, ambient pressure, fuel pressure (pre-feed pump), rail pressure (actual/target)
Lambda / mixture
- Lambda value, injection time, short-term lambda adjustment, long-term lambda adjustment
Other
- RPM, air mass, vehicle speed, throttle angle, total ignition angle, ignition angle retraction per cylinder, N75 timing (%), terminal 30 voltage, torque, gear, diesel-specific values
If specific values are missing, they can be added later.
Connections and expansion
Four analog inputs support linear 0–5 V signals and NTC sensors. CANchecked sensor definitions are included by default in the TRI/TRX files:
- AIN1: Temperature sensor (NTC01)
- AIN2: Type K EGT converter (TCC01)
- AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (FLP01)
- AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (BST01)
An optional pre-assembled AIN wiring harness can be used for connection. An external 8-LED shift light can also be connected, with flash colors and thresholds configurable on the display.
An ethanol sensor connects directly to the display; a 10 kΩ pull-up resistor between 5 V and the signal is required to display and log ethanol content and temperature.
