CANchecked MFD15 Gen2 Data Display Kit for VW New Beetle 9C

This vehicle-specific MFD15 Gen2 kit adds a compact OLED data display to your VW New Beetle 9C, designed for excellent readability even in direct sunlight. The kit includes a vehicle-specific bezel and connection cable and is operated via the two front push buttons; an optional external rotary knob can also be connected.

Key features

  • Compact size: 52 mm diameter, 12.5 mm depth
  • Front LED: configurable as shift light and/or warning LED
  • CAN Bus support: CAN ECUs, custom CAN streams; OBD2 support and VAG deep values (from 2008, in some cases older)
  • WiFi configuration: setup via smartphone or PC using the Web App (oDSS)
  • Analog inputs: up to 6 analog sensors; supports linear 0–5 V and NTC sensors
  • Preset alarms: activate and customize predefined warnings (e.g., EGT warning above 900°)
  • Personalization: custom startup logo and color scheme
  • Optional licensed functions: online logging, flex fuel display, CAN switching and analog-input forwarding

Display pages and layouts

Select up to eight pages and tailor what you see. Available layouts include:

  • Analog pointer
  • Single value
  • Double value
  • 4-fold values
  • 6-fold values
  • Bar + double display
  • Round display
  • Bar graph (double across)
  • Performance Meter
  • Bar chart (1–6-fold upright)
  • Gear indicator

WiFi setup with oDSS (Online Display Setup Software)

The MFD15 Gen2 can be accessed via WiFi for configuration from a smartphone or PC. Using oDSS you can fully configure the display, upload a startup image, and update the device. Value logging in oDSS requires a license.

ECU/CAN compatibility and supported values

The MFD15 Gen2 is compatible with ISO 11898-2 and SAE J2284. The actual values available depend on what your ECU transmits on CAN; documentation (including DBC files) can be used, and up to 64 sensors can be queried depending on the manufacturer.

OBD2 requests via CAN (11-bit/29-bit) are implemented, and vehicle-specific protocols such as UDS or TP2 are available.

Included protocols/ECU profiles by default:

  • OBD2 (11-bit and 29-bit)
  • Ecumaster (Classic and Black)
  • VAG PQ34
  • Haltech v2
  • LinkECU
  • MaxxECU
  • Motec M1
  • Emtron
  • Megasquirt 2 and 3

For VAG vehicles from model year 2008 (and in some cases older), in-depth protocol-based queries are available, including values such as oil temperature, boost pressure, transmission temperature, cylinder-selective ignition angle return, high/low pressure, wastegate actuation, and more.

Integrated LED functions

The internal LED can operate as a shift light or as a warning LED.

  • Shift light: assign up to 8 colors and RPM thresholds, plus a flashing RPM setting.
  • Warning LED: set minimum and maximum limits per sensor; if exceeded, the LED flashes in the configured color. The shift light is disabled during a warning event.

What’s included

  • MFD15 Gen2 data display
  • Vehicle-specific bezel for LHD & RHD vehicles
  • Vehicle-specific connection cable
  • Quickstart guide
  • Connector B (6-way Molex)
  • Connector C (12-way Molex)
  • Pre-assembled connection cables (20 cm; for power, CAN bus, analog inputs, 5 V, sensor ground)
  • Crimp pins
  • Two 1K resistors (NTC pull-up)

Analog inputs and sensor presets

Six analog inputs are available and support linear 0–5 V and NTC sensors. Factory-stored characteristic curves for CANchecked sensors enable plug-and-play operation for:

  • AIN1: Temperature sensor (NTC01)
  • AIN2: Type K exhaust gas temperature transducer (TCC01)
  • AIN3: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (FLP01)
  • AIN4: Boost pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (BST01)
  • AIN5: Not preconfigured
  • AIN6: Not preconfigured

A pre-assembled 4-way AIN harness can be used for connection. With the appropriate license, an ethanol sensor can also be connected directly to the display via a separate pin.

Optional accessories

  • CC22501 ETK01: External rotary knob with PnP 50 cm connection cable
  • CC22100 CBD08: 8-way CAN distribution hub
  • CC22780 ANC04: 4-way AIN harness
  • CC22902 NTC01: Liquid temperature sensor, 1/8 inch NPT
  • CC22903 TCC01: Type K transducer, 0–1250°C
  • CC22901 FLP01: Pressure sensor 0–10 bar (145 psi), M10x1
  • CC22900 BST01: Pressure sensor 0–5.5 bar absolute (80 psi)

Additional licenses

Live Logging

With the “Live Logging” license, sensor data can be logged into oDSS and downloaded to your smartphone or PC. All sensors are logged, but for OBD and UDS only the currently displayed sensors are included. Select sensors for graphical display.

Flex Fuel (ethanol sensor directly on the display)

With the ethanol sensor license, the sensor connects directly to the display. A 10K pull-up resistor is required between 5 V and the signal. Ethanol content and fuel temperature can be displayed and logged.

CAN Switching and AIN forwarding

With the CAN Switching and AIN Forwarding license, the display buttons or the rotary knob can switch CAN switches, and the analog input voltages can be forwarded onto the CAN bus.
