The ARP 204-5801 main stud kit is engineered for the VW/Audi S4 and RS4 2.7L V6 Bi-turbo engines. These main studs are designed to eliminate main cap walk and fretting, while protecting the threads in your engine block. Each kit includes hardened parallel-ground washers and high quality nuts. Select applications feature provisions for mounting windage trays, utilizing specially designed standoff studs and serrated lock nuts for secure tray positioning.
Manufactured from 8740 chrome moly steel, the studs are heat-treated in-house to achieve 190,000 psi tensile strength. Precision J-form threads are rolled after heat-treatment, resulting in threads that are significantly stronger than standard fasteners.
ARP recommends main studs over bolts for several reasons: they allow for more accurate torque readings by avoiding twisting into the block, apply all clamping force on a single axis, and reduce stress on block threads—important for aluminum blocks. This leads to improved block longevity, easier engine assembly, and consistent cap alignment.
