Modification of the 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 2 engines beyond OEM power levels necessitates an increased volume of high-pressure fuel to prevent "fuel cuts," particularly in the midrange. The factory fuel pump often experiences pressure loss under these conditions.

The capacity of the high-pressure pump is limited by the volume displaced by the pressurizing cylinder within the pump. This upgrade replaces the internal components responsible for the pressure and volume of fuel delivered to the injectors, ensuring they meet the demands of higher power outputs.

Precision is critical; the final surface finish on the piston inside the fuel pump is so delicate that it can be damaged by direct contact with bare hands. The tolerances between the piston and the new sleeve it operates within can only be accurately measured using specialized machinery that utilizes air volumes to gauge part clearances to microscopic levels. A CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) is employed successfully for this purpose.
