Manufactured from premium grade 8740 alloy and proprietary ARP2000 alloy, these studs are rated significantly higher than standard “aircraft” quality steels. Each stud undergoes precise vertical placement in special racks and is heat-treated to 190,000 psi (8740 material) or 220,000 psi (ARP2000 material) for full heat penetration and superior strength.
Unlike lesser quality studs, ARP’s are centerless ground and thread rolled after heat-treatment for exacting tolerances. This ensures gaskets and cylinder heads align perfectly during installation. Studs offer more accurate and consistent torque loading compared to bolts, as the stud stretches only on the vertical axis during torquing, providing even clamping force on the head. Installation is straightforward: studs should be installed hand tight, not over-tightened.
