Select applications offer provisions for mounting windage trays, utilizing specially designed standoff studs with serrated lock nuts for secure positioning.
Manufactured from 8740 chrome moly steel, these studs are heat-treated in-house to achieve a tensile strength of 190,000 psi. Precision J-form threads are rolled after heat treatment, resulting in threads that are significantly stronger than standard fasteners.
ARP recommends main studs over bolts for several reasons: more accurate torque readings due to the elimination of stud “twist” during installation, reduced force on block threads for improved block longevity (especially important for aluminum blocks), easier engine assembly, and consistent main cap alignment.
