Drifting Returns to Jēkabpils: Day One

The Latvian Drift Championship made its long-awaited return to Jēkabpils region this weekend, kicking off the first traveling round of the 2025 season at the beloved Baroni Track in Birži. This marks the third consecutive year that Baroni has hosted the series — and once again, it delivered an atmosphere packed with adrenaline, tire smoke, and roaring engines.
After a spectacular 2024 edition, expectations were high. But from what we saw today — Day One’s practice and qualifying sessions — this year is already shaping up to top it.
? What Happened on Day One (Saturday, June 7)
Saturday was all about preparation and positioning. Both Street and Pro2 class drivers took to the track for official training sessions, followed by the intense pressure of qualifying runs. Each driver was not only racing the clock but also fighting for the best possible seeding going into Sunday’s TOP 32 tandem elimination battles.
Despite being a non-final day, the energy was undeniable. Fans gathered early, lining the fences and soaking in the smell of burnt rubber and high-octane fuel. The Baroni layout — known for its technical transitions and close clipping zones — proved again why it’s one of the most beloved tracks in the Baltic drift scene.
⚔️ Strong Competition – And It’s Only Just Begun
We saw experienced names and newcomers alike push the limits. Pro2 drivers laid down aggressive runs, setting the tone for what promises to be fierce tandem battles. In the Street class, local talents made a strong showing, using their familiarity with the track to great effect.
One thing was clear: the battles on Sunday will be intense. As we saw in the season opener, competition is tighter than ever — and Baroni’s challenging corners leave no room for error.
